Frequently Asked Questions

01

Where are you located?

1674 South 21st Street

Colorado Springs, Colorado

80904

03

What days and times are you offering service?

We offer grooming service appointments

Tues. -Sat. from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

If you have special needs that do not fall within these times, please let us know and we will make every effort to accommodate you.

05

What if I need my pet to stay longer than the time to groom?

To minimize stress on the dogs, we prefer they be picked up as soon as possible. Any pets who exceed 1 hour after services have been completed will be subject to kenneling fees.

07

May I drop my dog off early for an appointment?

We will make every attempt to accommodate you in these situations.  However, if you do need to drop your dog off 30 minutes or earlier prior to your scheduled time, we ask that you first discuss this with your groomer.  Please note that you may be obliged to kenneling fees if dropped off or picked up 1 hour before/after appointment.

09

My dog is really nervous and does not behave for grooming.  May I bring my dog in sedated?

If any pet is brought in sedated prior to any type of grooming appointment, we will have to cancel and reschedule the appointment and you will be obliged to cancellation fees.

11

How often can I get my dog bathed and how often should my dog get a haircut?

You should have your dog fully groomed every 6 to 8 weeks.  Breeds with short hair can usually wait 8 to 12 weeks between appointments, as long as they are brushed regularly at home.

02

What vaccinations do you require?

Pets 5 months and older must have current Rabies Vaccinations.

Pets who have been given any vaccinations must wait 48 hours before visiting Daisy's Bathtub -- Pets are usually sore and irritable around the injection site(s).  This also helps to ensure that the vaccination be given enough time to take effect.

04

How long do services take?

It depends on how well your dog takes to being groomed.

Expect 1 to 2 hours with our basic Tub'n Brush Service.

Expect 3 to 5 hours with our Tub'n Brush Tidy-Up and Haircut.

Services that do not involve Tub'n Brush will typically take 10 to 15 minutes.

06

May I drop my pet off for services?

Your pet may be dropped off for Tub'n Brush Services.

If you need to drop your pet off for Fetch Services, you may be subject to kenneling fees.

08

Can I stay with my dog and watch?

We ask that owners wait in the waiting area until services are complete.

It is not uncommon for dogs to get overly excited if they are able to see their owner, creating an unsafe groom for the dog and groomer.

10

How old should my puppy be before their first groom?

It is good to have your puppy to become familiar with grooming as early as possible after the first set of puppy shots, usually 12 - 16 weeks of age.  This will help him to learn from an early age that grooming can be a pleasant experience.

12

Can I bring my own shampoo?

Absolutely.

If your veterinarian had prescribed or suggested an alternate shampoo, we will gladly use it.  However, understand that if your dog has any reaction to the shampoo in which you brought, Daisy's Bathtub will not be held responsible.

14

13

How often do my dog's nails need trimming?

If you can hear your dog's nails clicking on the floor or sidewalk, it is time to get them trimmed.  Frequent walks on hard surfaces will help keep your dog's nails short.

For more information on nail trims, please check out my "Groomer's Helpful Tips" page.

15

What are anal glands and why is this service not always done?

These scent sacs are found underneath your dog's tail.  Some dogs empty them naturally, some do not.  You can tell if your dog needs to have his anal glands expressed when he slides his rear against the floor, or when he chews or licks at his rear end or tail, you may even notice a fowl odor.  If you notice any of these signs, you may discuss it with your groomer or veterinarian.

This service is only done when needed.  For expressing anal sacs too often can lead to impacted anal glands.

17

How come my groom cost more this time than last time?

Dematting Fee: $30/hour - Dematting, when possible, is time-consuming. Even if I shave the dog short, the matts are difficult to get through and cause wear and tear on my equipment. This results in a more expensive groom.

Kennel Fee: $15 an hour - Please respect the pick-up time arranged when you drop off. I am open by appointment only. I often have other engagements in the afternoon, so dogs need to go home shortly after they are finished. I'll discuss this with you when you drop off so you can plan your day.

Cancellation, Late Arrivals and No Show Fees: $20/pet - All missed appointments will be charged to the next groom unless cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. Missed appointments cost me income, which I depend on, and it is often too late to fill the spot by the time you don't show up.

19

My dog's hair is knotted.  Do I need to cut the hair short?

If the hair is knotted or matted, it is unhealthy for the dog's skin.  It may be possible to de-mat the coat, if it can be done without causing pain to your pet.  Unfortunately, the process is often painful and or can cause irritation to your dog's skin.  If your pet is matted, we can discuss with you what can be done.  Please note that dematting charges may be applied.

For more information on matting, please check out my "Groomer's Helpful Tips" page.

21

I had my dog's teeth brushed.  Why does my dog's teeth still look dirty and why does my dog's breath still smell?

Most of the time, in dogs, bad breath is caused by dental or gum disease. Dogs need regular dental cleanings to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Professional dental cleaning performed by a veterinarian will remove plaque and tartar accumulation that cannot be removed with just brushing alone.

Why did my dogs nail bleed?  - or- Why didn't you clip the nails as short as I wanted?

Unfortunately, even the most experienced of us groomers sometimes cut the nail too close to the quick, which results in bleeding. Most dogs do not sit well for the nail clipping, and some have especially thick or dark nails that are difficult to clip safely.   It happens, and while I do my best to avoid clipping them too close, I also have to try to clip them as short as possible.  It's a difficult balance to find, and I do the best I can. If the nail is clipped too short, I always make sure the bleeding is stopped before your dog goes home. I always clip the nails as short as it is safe to do so. On some dogs, this means just tipping the ends of the nails due to long quicks. There is nothing I can do to make them shorter that won't hurt your dog. Regular nail clippings every 2 weeks can help guide the quick back and allow me to clip them shorter, but it takes a very regular clipping to do this.

16

Will you feed my pet?

No.  No meals are provided during grooming services.  Water is the only thing that will be given to your pet.  Any treats that are left by the pet parent may be given to your pet.

If you usually feed your dog in the morning, refrain from doing so the day of their groom. Grooming can be stressful, and being nervous can cause your dog to get the runs or even throw up.  Having food in his stomach before getting groomed is not a good idea.  Please skip the meal until you take them home.

18

Your sign on the door says all dogs must be on a leash. I forgot my leash.  Can I still bring my dog in?

Yes, BUT...please respect this rule and make every effort to remember your leash. There may be other dogs in my shop at any given time, and there may be people coming and going. If your dog is not on a leash, I am not able to control them, and the risk of them getting into a fight with another dog or running out the door is high. You should never take your dog into a public place without a leash on, no matter what size they are. We absolutely require leashes. No exceptions.  If you do not have one, one will be provided for you.

20

Why do you refuse service to dogs with fleas, mites, lice, and other parasites?

Refusing service to any one and their pet is something that I do not enjoy doing.  But an infestation is something that puts the salon and other pets in my care at risk.

22

Why is teeth brushing not included in the Tub'n Brush Services?

Teeth Brushing should be part of your dog's everyday routine.  The majority of our dogs that come to visit are already suffering from dental disease wheather owners are currently aware or not.  Once a pet has tartar build up, teeth brushing does not do much at this point and cleaning performed by a veterinarian should be sought out.
